Introduction

Alain Metellus, MSW, M.Ed., is a dedicated and accomplished School Social Worker currently serving within the Florida Department of Education in Hillsborough County. With over 15 years of experience supporting diverse student populations, he brings a deep commitment to advancing mental health equity, trauma-informed care, and student-centered interventions in both educational and private therapy settings. Alain is privileged to be bridging his expertise from the school systems to the community. Alain's extensive expertise spans crisis intervention, mental health advocacy, and the design and implementation of systemic supports that foster social-emotional development and academic success. His therapeutic mission centers on dedication to promoting inclusive, culturally responsive mental health practices utilizing evidence-based strategies. Prior to his work in Florida, Alain held pivotal roles within the New York City Department of Education and the United Federation of Teachers, including Director of Crisis Intervention. In this capacity, he led citywide grief counseling initiatives, coordinated post-crisis mental health responses, and provided consultation and referral services to school-based staff. His background also includes experience as a Dean of Students, Health and Safety Representative, and Special Education Teacher—roles that have equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of school systems and the multifaceted needs of students, adults, and families. Alain holds dual Master’s degrees in Social Work and Education, and is certified in School Social Work, Exceptional Student Education, and Elementary Education in both Florida and New York. He is fluent in Haitian-Creole and French and is a strong advocate for multilingual and multicultural engagement in therapeutic and educational contexts. As a Florida Registered Clinical Social Work Intern, Alain currently provides direct mental health support to clients navigating a range of emotional and behavioral challenges through a multitude of theoretical platforms tailored to meet the needs of his client. Alain joined Osgood Mental Health Counseling in 2025 and is able to see clients through in office appointments as well as the telehealth platform.
