Introduction

Aliza Graber is a licensed clinical social worker with experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. Aliza received her Masters in Social Work from Yeshiva University and has worked in a variety of settings, including as a college advisor, middle school counselor, and psychotherapist. Aliza worked as a college advisor and understands the demands on college students including the difficulties they face navigating the transition between adolescence and adulthood. Young adulthood can be a challenging and confusing time full of questions and changes. Aliza supports clients through their journey of discovering their identity, career choices, romantic relationships, and managing the “real world” after high school and college. As a former middle school counselor, Aliza is well versed in the needs of adolescents. Aliza has a way of connecting with teens that enables them to feel understood. She creates a safe, comfortable space that allows clients to explore their inner thoughts and learn skills for navigating life’s challenges. Teen clients have said they feel they can share with Aliza in a way they are unable to do with others in their lives. When no one else is around–or it feels as though no one is around who understands, Aliza can help teens and young adults feel seen and heard. Aliza also acts as a bridge between parents and teens, often playing the role of “translator” for teen language to parent language. Aliza incorporates family sessions as part of the therapeutic process to enable teens and parents to work on communication skills and help foster a healthy family dynamic. Aliza’s approach is client centered which means that as the client, you are in charge of your own therapeutic journey. Aliza uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which encourages exploration of our thoughts and behaviors to learn how they influence our feelings. Aliza works with her clients to identify negative thinking and behavior patterns and work together to reframe those thoughts into healthy and productive ways of thinking and acting. Aliza also uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy which promotes mindfulness and acceptance of our difficult emotions. The ACT model also gives us the skills to live a life according to our values as opposed to our fears. Aliza works with clients to understand and accept their feelings, build better self esteem, and learn coping skills for dealing with life’s ups and downs. When working with OCD and other related disorders, Aliza implements Exposure and Response Prevention, an empirically based therapy that allows clients to begin desensitizing themselves to their fears in a safe and controlled environment. In her free time Aliza loves playing with her dog, dancing, yoga, and scrolling through Instagram!
