Hi there, I’m Amanda Capriato and I am so glad you are here. As a therapy client myself, I know how courageous it is to prioritize mental health for you, your child, or your family. You've made the first step in your journey, and I hope I can walk the rest with you. Prior to my career as a mental health therapist, I was an elementary educator for 5 years. This, and my own mental health journey starting in childhood, is where my passion for helping children and their families with mental, emotional, and social health blossomed. I received both my B.S. in Early Childhood Education and my Master of Social Work from The Ohio State University. Go Bucks! I have experience working in both community-based and private practice settings using play therapy techniques with children, as well as providing parent-coaching, family therapy, and individual therapy. I take a child-centered or person-centered approach that is based on your unique needs. We will also explore relationships with the community outside of the playroom and therapy to ensure you are supported in all areas of your life. To achieve this, I use CBT, DBT, trauma-focused interventions, the person-in-environment approach, family therapy approaches, and Solutions-Focused Therapy, while using play therapy techniques with children. Most importantly, I am a firm believer in creating a strong therapeutic relationship as the foundation for change. I specialize in working with children ages 3 and up who have neurodevelopmental disorders, (such as Autism or ADHD), have experienced stress or trauma, or are experiencing anxiety. I also specialize in working with challenging externalized behaviors, such as tantrums, defiance, anger, meltdowns, and aggression. We will work together to strengthen your family’s relationships and ability to regulate emotions together. Outside of my sessions, I am most likely hanging out with my 80-pound Husky mix, my 4-pound Chihuahua, and my partner, Oliver. We love to spend time outdoors hiking, walking, and canoeing. I also love reading and fantasy is my jam! There’s nothing like temporarily escaping into a world full of magic and adventure! I also love baking all sorts of treats, from macarons to Italian rainbow cookies. For me, baking is the ultimate form of self-care because it involves every sensory input – smells, tastes, touch – and then you get a yummy treat as a reward for your work. My sweet tooth is unmatched!
