Understanding the whys behind behavior has always been important to me. These “whys” take the form of beliefs, misunderstanding, trauma experiences, disappointments, losses, and more. Sometimes it takes the insight and experience of another to help us uncover the “whys” for ourselves and create change. This is what makes counseling such an important part of change. It was my own journey to find the “whys” of my life that led me to a career change into the world of mental health. My work as a therapist is driven by my empathy for others. I believe that when we have the right information, behavior makes sense. This doesn’t excuse behavior but provides understanding and motivation for change. I work best with individuals and families facing the impacts of sexual trauma, addiction or betrayal. I graduated from University of the Cumberlands with a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My Bachelors degree is in Mathematics from Southern Utah University. I am a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist with the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals and practice Lifespan Integration with my clients who have experienced trauma. Mental Health Counseling is my second career. My background includes teaching as a mathematics and music teacher at the high school and college levels, strategic planning consulting with schools looking to implement large changes, as well as organizing and planning conferences for non-profits. I excel at maintaining a big picture approach while also keeping track of the smaller contributing parts. In addition to counseling, I love all things Einstein, Science Fiction, and Car Racing. I prime factor numbers to fall asleep at night and love to read. My ruler collection, the ocean, and tacos are my favorite things, and my nieces and nephews are my favorite people.
