Being a Black person in a professional leadership position can be extremely tough, to say the least. You more than likely received that position due to your uncanny ability of taking care of everybody & everything, and getting sh*t done! Not only are you good at this on the job, but you are typically good at doing this in your personal life. You’re the “responsible” one - the one that everyone in your circles can rely on. While there are benefits from being seen in this manner, you are constantly working, & overworking. Not to mention, working through the microaggressions, and harmful behaviors from other coworkers at work. However, you may be searching for a therapist because you’ve finally reached a point where you are feeling overwhelmed by it all, and it’s affecting your day to day livelihood. You may not be fully aware of the problem, but one thing’s for sure - you are tired of feeling tired all the damn time! You are craving freedom, flexibility, and peace now, more than ever before. My name is Andra Brown, I’m a licensed therapist based in NYC, and I help Black folx to stop overworking in their positions of leadership, and lead care-centered lives. While I have experience working with all types of professional leaders, I have a special interest in working with Black folx within creative industries (i.e., fashion, beauty, film, photography, music, etc). As a creative myself, I believe that Black creatives are essential to our liberation. We deserve a space to reimagine & reconnect with love, joy & rest in radical ways. I lean on various evidence-based & experiential practices in order to help you lean into love, joy & rest. I utilize culturally sensitive techniques that help you understand the unconscious motivations behind your relationship to labor, and overworking. I ensure that systemic factors are always being considered. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR), which can help you to address past emotional injuries & release the hold that these experiences may have on you in tangible ways. You will leave therapy with a better understanding of yourself, and tools that you can use on a daily basis. Ready to connect?
