Andrea Burks established Bayou Wellness on June 1, 2015. Andrea is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) and certified addictions professional (CAP). She is trained in both emotionally focused therapy (EFT) and Gottman therapy for couples. She received her bachelor's degree in family and child sciences from Florida State University and her master's in counseling and psychology from Troy University. She has worked in the mental health field since 2009, both in private and agency settings. "My primary aim for this practice is to be a vessel for the work that the Holy Spirit desires to accomplish in the people He leads to Bayou Wellness. While the present day mental health field has a vastly growing body of research and endless theoretical models for counseling, I believe that these methods of thought and behavior modification by themselves effect only superficial and short-term relief. Apart from the work of the Holy Spirit and the intentions and will of God, traditional psychotherapy methods fall short of true soul healing, which is only and always the supernatural work of God. Processing stories, exploring emotions, broadening perspective, changing dysfunctional behaviors, and implementing practical life skills are all essential to learn and do through the lens of God's design with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who is the greatest counselor of all."
