Introduction

Hello, I'm Andrea and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and clinical supervisor, a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, and Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Art degree in Art from the University of Texas. I have nearly 20 years of experience working at the intersectionalities of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, age, and class with those struggling with addiction and recovery issues, relationship problems, family of origin, trauma, codependence, and grief. My approach to healing is heavily influenced by attachment theory, family systems, shame resiliency, and social justice. “Tell me your story, not of what is wrong with you, but what happened to you.” I am a relational therapist who passionately believes in the power of relationships; that it can be an instrument to cause pain and harm at times, as well as provide healing in our lifelong pursuit of connection, belonging and wholeness. I believe that we all have contexts and multiple intersections that make up who we are, how we move through the world, and how we arrived where we currently are in life. I work collaboratively with clients to create brave and safe space in the therapeutic relationship to effectively explore the attachment and connection wounds that are at the core of emotional and psychic pain, to identify those that open the door to mood disorders, relationship issues, addictive/compulsive/unhealthy behaviors and trauma in all its many forms and manifestations. Utilizing the power of empathy, authenticity, compassion, acceptance, love, and forgiveness both towards self and others, I work with clients to facilitate and promote the capacity to walk through and heal those attachment and connection wounds often experienced as shame. I believe in learning to be more accepting and loving of ourselves so we can live healthier lives, co-create healthier and fulfilling relationships with ourselves and others, and create lives worth living.
