I am a licensed psychologist specializing in individual and couples counseling with a thriving private practice in Salt Lake City, Utah. With over 20 years of experience as a therapist and a doctorate from the University of Utah's Counseling Psychology program, I work with a wide variety of issues including relational and stress management concerns, executive leadership and career performance, life transitions, communication skills, parenting, anxiety, and depression. My therapeutic approach is primarily Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the Gottman Method. I created HYPMIND, a specialized method of increasing well-being and decreasing stress, to help my clients heal from stress-related conditions that affect health and relationships. I utilize the Hogan leadership assessment in my executive consulting work. My initial focus is providing a warm, supportive environment while getting to know your unique situation and concerns. After we agree on goals, I tend to be relatively directive and engaged. I help people express emotions and build relationship skills. My approach is solution-focused and strength-based, with a strong belief in mindfulness interventions to develop health and well-being. Along with psychotherapy, I serve as a consultant to LHI and R3 Continuum providing PTSD evaluations, crisis briefings, and management consultation. As a Clinical Associate Professor in the Departments of Educational Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Utah, I have taught graduate-level courses and supervised doctoral students. Previously, I worked as Clinical and Program Director of the Family Support Center. My advanced training and certification include EMDR, the Gottman Method (Certified Gottman Educator, Level II), Hogan Certified leadership assessment, executive coaching, meditation (Clinically Standardized Meditation), and hypnotherapy (Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, ICBCH), along with many years of yoga practice.
