Hello and welcome! I’m Anne White, a South Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and the sole owner of and practitioner at Resiliency Counseling, LLC. I am not a Charleston native, a fact which you will likely notice in our first session, but I have been living locally for about four years. As an undergraduate, I double-majored in English Literature and Communications Studies, and graduated with my BA from Virginia Tech in 1999. After several years working in Corporate Communications and Community Relations, I attended graduate school at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where I graduated with my MA in Counseling Psychology in 2010. I have been working in the field of mental health for over a decade and here in Charleston in private practice since 2018. I first became interested in counseling when working in Corporate Community Relations. It was through that position, as a representative of my company, that I saw firsthand the need for mental health practitioners. Since making the decision to switch career paths, I have had a variety of experiences in the field, including working as a rape crisis advocate, a counselor of crime victims, and a therapist at a residential treatment facility for children between the ages 5 to 18. I transitioned to private practice work five years ago and have worked with clients of all ages to treat depression, anxiety, process addictions, life adjustments, trauma, and relationship issues. I am a generalist and work with couples and individuals aged 6 or older. All therapists work from a theoretical perspective, which is called their "orientation." I am an eclectic therapist, which means that, although I lean toward one perspective, I am open to utilizing tools, techniques, and approaches based on my client’s identified needs. I view my clients through the lens of humanism and lean toward a therapeutic style that most closely resembles person-centered therapy. This means that on the most basic level, I believe in the individual’s ability to achieve his/her goals and answer his/her own questions. Therefore, I see my job as assisting my clients in realizing their own abilities and truths. Person-centered therapy is largely based on the idea that therapy must be a collaborate process to be successful, a belief that I see as inherently true. I greet every client with unconditional positive regard and allow my clients to direct much of their own sessions. This does not mean I won’t challenge you or push you in the name of therapeutic growth. I will. I hope to help my clients move forward in their lives; set and achieve personal goals; recover from negative/traumatic experiences; and develop/strengthen their coping skills for future stressors. I want to help you heal, grow, and thrive. If you are ready for my help, please contact me!
