Introduction

Dr. Surja is a highly accomplished pediatric and addiction psychiatrist with over 20 years of clinical and academic experience. After earning his medical degree, Dr. Surja completed four years of ACGME-accredited residency training in general psychiatry at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, where his academic excellence and research contributions earned him the prestigious Ruby and John Schwab Award for Best Academic Achievement in 2004. His deep interest in childhood mental health inspired him to pursue an additional two years of fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry. Motivated by his extensive clinical experience with substance use disorders, he undertook a further year of specialized training in addiction psychiatry. This comprehensive and rigorous training path places Dr. Surja among a select group of psychiatrists nationwide who are triple-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Surja provides compassionate, patient-centered care with a holistic approach, blending therapy, medication management, and lifestyle balance. He tailors each treatment to individual needs, integrating cultural sensitivity and wellness-focused strategies. Grounded in humility, Dr. Surja believes in lifelong learning—drawing insight not only from ongoing education but also from listening to and learning from each patient. He respects each individual’s unique story and is dedicated to providing thoughtful, personalized care.
