Introduction

As a social worker, my philosophy is based on the principles of Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and Harm Reduction. I believe in fostering a supportive and non-judgmental therapeutic environment that respects and empowers individuals. I view each person as unique, possessing inherent worth, and capable of making informed choices. In applying REBT, I recognize that our thoughts, beliefs, and interpretations significantly impact our emotions and behaviors. I aim to help clients identify and challenge irrational or self-defeating beliefs that contribute to their emotional distress or problematic behaviors. By encouraging rational thinking and developing healthier coping strategies, I strive to empower clients to take charge of their emotional well-being and create meaningful change in their lives. Simultaneously, I embrace the principles of Harm Reduction. I recognize that individuals have diverse experiences, needs, and goals. My approach emphasizes meeting clients where they are, without judgment or coercion, to minimize harm and enhance their overall well-being. I prioritize open dialogue, collaboration, and informed decision-making, supporting clients in setting realistic goals and developing strategies that reduce the negative consequences of risky behaviors. In working with clients, I believe in fostering a therapeutic alliance based on trust, empathy, and cultural humility. I acknowledge the systemic factors that impact individuals' lives, such as social inequality, discrimination, and trauma. I strive to advocate for social justice, equity, and inclusivity in all aspects of my practice. Ultimately, my philosophy as a social worker is to provide a compassionate, person-centered approach that integrates the principles of REBT and Harm Reduction. By combining these frameworks, I aim to support individuals in their journey towards emotional well-being, personal growth, and positive change, while respecting their autonomy and honoring their unique experiences.
