Introduction

Creative Expression provides a safe, supportive, and comfortable environment to help individuals build trust, gain hope, feel understood, positively connect, freely express thoughts and feelings, and improve overall well-being! Creative Expression's unique approach to counseling focuses on utilizing the creative outlets of art and play to help children, teens, and young adults with freely and naturally expressing themselves. Art and play act as mirrors of what is happening internally and become a reflection as well as a record of the therapeutic process. Art can speak in colors, shapes, and images beyond the limitations of our spoken language. Art acts as a safe environment that encourages the risk of being seen, known, and accepted in an alternative way. Play can be used to explore the world and make sense of what you experience. Play strengthens the connections in the brain and supports intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and creative processes. Activities such as drawing, painting, collaging, writing, play, sandtray, visualization, and other creative outlets are implemented to encourage naturally expressing oneself and communicating experiences that may be difficult to verbalize. Through this creative process, you will be able to focus on your individual wants and needs, enhance your strengths and abilities, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress/anxiety/depression, increase self-esteem, and discover creative solutions to problems.
