Carissa Francis provides in-person psychotherapy sessions in Purcellville, Virginia and virtual therapy to those residing in West Virginia, Virginia, South Carolina & Washington, DC. She enjoys working with adolescents, teens, & adults. Carissa uses light humor and warmth to connect with clients and create a safe place for their healing and self-discovery. She is trained in many evidenced-based treatments to empower clients to identify obstacles and build skills to achieve their goals. Modalities used in sessions will be determined based on the needs of the individual. Some of the most common treatment approaches Carissa uses in sessions are Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), & Mindfulness. These modalities help clients improve depression, reduce stress and anxiety, manage OCD, heal from trauma, boost confidence and self-esteem, stabilize mood, strengthen communication skills, and enhance school or work performance. Carissa also has two golden retrievers who are trained as therapy dogs and are available to meet with clients. Research has found the presence of a pet can help strengthen rapport between client and therapist and improve the ability to cope with anxiety, depression, injury, and illness. *Please note, because pet therapy sessions are often offered at the Purcellville office, those with pet allergies should consider seeking another provider to maintain their own health and safety.
