We are committed to upholding ethical standards of practice, and creating an environment of mutual respect and trust with our clients. Our goal is to assist our clients in building the fortitude needed to heal, endure, and navigate life’s difficulties while maintaining personal wellbeing. MY BIO: My name is Carol Lee. When I was a child, I wanted to be a counselor. Growing up in a culture of poverty, life seemed to pull me in a different direction. Instead of going to college, I got married, had two amazing boys, divorced, remarried, and entered a career in the business world. Although there were hardships, ultimately, I had what I thought was a good life! That is until 2013 when my world shattered. My eldest son, Curtis, died by suicide. Just as so many suicide survivors report; we never saw it coming. Years of grief ensued. With the help of Ryan's Place (https://www.ryansplace.org), I found my calling. After becoming a client (along with my son and grandson), I became a grief support group facilitator in 2015. I then returned to school full time, completed my Master's in Social Work, and received my Indiana Social Work License (LSW). I have gained a new perspective on life, and helping others navigate and survive their grief journey has become a passion for me. I will forever be grateful for the volunteers and staff that held my hand as I healed and learned to live a life without my child. I continue to volunteer my time and work closely with Ryan's Place. I have also found, over the pasts 3.5 years working in mental health, that I have a huge soft spot and innate talent for working with children diagnosed with ASD. I not only work with the child to learn necessary skills but I also work with the parents to locate resources, apply for resources, and implement parenting skills to assist with behaviors in the home. Finally, many people have difficulties in life regardless of background, income level, or culture. I strive to help others navigate life's complications and hardships to the best of my and their ability. I look forward to meeting you! Carol A.
