Introduction

Chrissie Brewer is a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who is ANCC board-certified to serve clients across the lifespan. She has long been passionate about psychology and first pursued her interest in the field as an undergraduate at Connecticut College, where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She trained for her career in advanced psychiatric nursing at the prestigious Columbia University School of Nursing; she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master’s of Science in Psychiatric/Mental Health Advanced Nursing Practice. As a Columbia student and Registered Nurse, she also worked and trained in some of the best hospitals in New York City, including New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell and Payne Whitney Westchester. Chrissie is strongly committed to working with young people. Her treatment approach respects the client as a whole. She takes into account familial, psychosocial, interpersonal, and medical factors to tailor treatment to the individual. Suggested treatment interventions may include the use of psychotropic medication, but also place emphasis on other important domains of wellbeing, including nutrition, exercise, interpersonal and familial relationships, and psychotherapy. Chrissie’s psychotherapeutic approach is informed by tenets of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness practices aimed at helping clients to improve their skills in coping and emotional self-regulation. Chrissie has extensive experience treating psychiatric disorders of childhood and adolescence, including Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, mood disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, psychotic illness, school refusal/truancy, and personality disorders. Chrissie prides herself on being available to her patients day or night to answer questions and provide support.
