Christian D. Haase (he/him), Psy.D. is a New York State licensed psychologist. Dr. Haase has been a practicing mental health clinician for 12+ years. He currently holds a hospital appointment with NYC Health + Hospitals Bellevue in the World Trade Center Environmental Health Clinic. He also holds a clinical assistant professorship with the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Dr. Haase completed his postdoctoral fellowship at NYU’s Counseling and Wellness Services clinic and received his doctoral degree in Clinical and School Psychology from James Madison University. He also holds an MA in Counseling and a graduate certificate in Working with Survivors of Violence, Torture, and Trauma. CLINICAL INTERESTS / APPROACH: Dr. Haase’s clinical interests include anxiety, depression, trauma, substance misuse/abuse, relationship issues, gender related difficulties, anger management, shame, and family of origin issues. He approaches therapy using an integrative framework grounded in humanistic and attachment psychology which includes techniques that focus on emotions (Emotion-Focused Therapy), interpersonal patterns (Interpersonal Reconstructive Therapy), psychological defenses (Psychodynamic Therapy & AEDP), thought and behavioral processes (CBT, DBT, ACT), somatic and mindfulness practices, and lived experiences. He deeply values multicultural awareness and honoring individuals from all backgrounds and identity representations. His experience working with diverse clients (i.e. LGBTQ+, veterans, college students, people residing in urban or rural areas) expands across a wide a range of settings including college counseling, hospital, crisis, and community mental health centers. PERSONAL: Personally he enjoys hiking during all seasons, cooking tasty food, being active (i.e. running, yoga), reading a book that has nothing to do with the last one he read, and spending quality time with his family, friends, and very sweet (and temperamental) cat Joni.
