Introduction

Hi there! I’m Dr. Derek Ream, a Psychologist and the Owner and CEO of Sugar Land Psychological Associates. My professional work includes individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, enhanced by my specialization in psychological, neuropsychological, and forensic psychological assessments. My areas of expertise include treating insomnia, substance use disorders, trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD, and chronic pain, with a dedicated focus on serving the LGBTQI+ community. Additionally, I have a significant background in assisting both former and active military personnel and law enforcement officers. My professional background includes previous roles as an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, a Psychologist in the Substance Disorders Treatment Program at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, an Adjunct Professor at Clark State College, and a Forensic Psychologist with Forum Ohio, LLC. In academia, I’ve published peer-reviewed book chapters and journal abstracts, and presented extensively in the areas of neuropsychology, rehabilitation psychology, and cognitive neuroscience at various national and international conferences. For fun, I typically enjoy going to concerts, playing video games, shooting at the gun range, and cooking various international cuisines. On a personal note, I’m married to Dr. Andre Fernandes, and we share our lives with two dogs, Giovani and Annie. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I pursued a career as a professional orchestral bass trombonist, and trained at the New England Conservatory of Music, adding a unique perspective to my professional journey and how I practice.
