Hi there! I’m Dr. Derek Ream, a Psychologist and the Owner and CEO of Sugar Land Psychological Associates. My practice focuses on comprehensive psychological assessments and individual therapy, with specialized expertise in both clinical and forensic assessments. I conduct a wide range of evaluations to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning, including assessments for general diagnostic clarification, ADHD, autism, and bariatric pre-surgical readiness. I also provide neurocognitive assessments for conditions such as dementia and acquired brain injuries. In therapy, I work with individuals experiencing insomnia, depression (bipolar and unipolar), anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). My clinical experience spans a range of psychiatric settings including inpatient, residential, and outpatient programs within the VA Healthcare System where I have conducted comprehensive evaluations and provided treatment for individuals with severe mental illness, substance use disorders, chronic pain, trauma-related conditions, and neurocognitive impairments. I received advanced training in neuropsychological assessment and neuro-rehabilitation through the VA Healthcare System, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the Design Neuroscience Center. Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with veterans, active-duty service members, and law enforcement personnel, bringing a deep understanding of the unique needs of these populations. Professionally, I have held roles as an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, a Psychologist in the Substance Disorders Treatment Program at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, an Adjunct Professor at Clark State College, and a Forensic Psychologist with Forum Ohio, LLC. In academia, I have published peer-reviewed book chapters and journal abstracts and have presented extensively in the areas of neuropsychology, rehabilitation psychology, and cognitive neuroscience at various national and international conferences. Aside from my work as a psychologist and running a practice, I serve as President of Fort Bend Psychological Association, serve on the Prescribing Psychology “RxP” Committee of the Texas Psychological Association, and serve as a peer-reviewer for a neuropsychology journal. On a personal note, I’m married to my wonderful husband Andre, and we share our home with our two dogs, Giovani and Annie. Before I became a psychologist, I was a professional orchestral bass trombonist, having performed with a variety of orchestras across the U.S., and trained at the New England Conservatory of Music, which gives me a unique perspective in my current work.
