ABOUT DR. FOLEY: Dr. Jessica Foley is a board certified clinical neuropsychologist and licensed clinical psychologist in the state of California with over 20 years of experience largely serving adults in neuropsychological evaluation. Her educational background entails undergraduate work at Harvard University in social sciences and psychology, graduate work in clinical psychology at Nova Southeastern University specializing in clinical neuropsychology, internship training in clinical neuropsychology at Brown Medical School, and postdoctoral residency in clinical neuropsychology at UCLA School of Medicine. She was formerly an instructor at Harvard Medical School and clinical neuropsychologist at VA Boston Healthcare System. She is currently a full time assistant clinical professor (health sciences) of Neurology and attending neuropsychologist at UCSF School of Medicine, serving individuals who have sustained a variety of neurologic insults, including traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, tumor, movement disorder, neurodegenerative disease, and stroke. In private settings, she also has many years of experience in evaluations for ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disability, and psychiatric factors interfering with academic, occupational, and other aspects of everyday functioning. She is a diplomat with the American Board of Professional Psychology and the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology. WHAT IS A NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION? A neuropsychological evaluation seeks to understand and measure the ways in which an individual processes information as well as the causes of any real-life struggles, including those related to academic, occupational, or other everyday difficulties. The abilities tested include attention, learning, processing speed, reading, language comprehension and usage, reasoning and problem solving, memory, mood, and personality functioning. An evaluation typically entails extensive clinical interview, a full day of neuropsychological testing (for comprehensive), review of records, collateral discussion with parents (or others) if available, and a feedback session to discuss findings. The results of a battery of an individually tailored evaluation can serve to identify appropriate academic accommodations, environmental and study strategies, and recommendations to facilitate future functioning and treatment planning. An evaluation also includes provision of a detailed (typically 20+ pages for comprehensive) neuropsychological report that will facilitate any relevant recommendations (e.g., academic or occupational accommodations) and treatment needs. WHAT AREAS OF FUNCTIONING ARE ASSESSED? • Intelligence • Attention • Processing speed and psychomotor functioning • Learning and memory • Visuospatial skills • Academic abilities • Executive functioning including problem solving • Mood and personality WHAT IS TESTED FOR? • Attention/ADHD (formerly ADD) • Learning Disabilities including dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other learning abnormalities • Autism Spectrum Disorder (including former classification of Asperger’s syndrome) • Mood, anxiety, personality, and other psychiatric disorders • Underlying neurologic, medical, or other neurodevelopmental disorders • Academic accommodations including for college/graduate school resources and for standardized testing (e.g., SAT, ACT, MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, GRE) • Workplace accommodations WHAT IS A NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION INTENDED TO ASSESS? • Intellectual, learning, and academic strengths and weaknesses to facilitate compensation • The nature of specific learning styles • Recent changes or academic decline • Difficulty processing information • Abnormalities of a pattern that may reflect neurobiological deficits • The impact of low motivation, frustration tolerance, environmental interference, or other factors on performance • Strategies that may optimize functioning, including environmental factors and behavioral tools that may enhance studying and test taking performance WHAT IS THE COST? My hourly rate is $330/hr. However, if desired, I am happy to arrange a 10 minute phone call to discuss your goals and to answer any questions. Please email me directly at DrFoley@NeuropsychologySF.com for such a phone call or you can use the Request Appointment button above to schedule a 50 minute video chat ($330) for an in depth discussion of your particular circumstances and determine the appropriateness of a Neuropsychological evaluation and indications for comprehensiveness. Comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for academic accommodations typically require about 22-25 hours of effort (typically between $7,000-8,500). Evaluations for complex ADHD, or Autism Spectrum Disorder versus psychiatric (or other) causes of difficulty may range from 15-18 hours (approximately $5,000-6,000), and abbreviated evaluations may also be offered for circumscribed clinical questions (e.g., +/-ADHD), ranging from 10-12 hours (approximately $3,500-4,000). Health insurance does not cover assessments for academic or occupational accommodations, and such evaluations are therefore always privately billed. Health insurance plans may cover evaluations for underlying health concerns. We are out of network with health insurance, but would be able to provide a superbill following your evaluation to facilitate reimbursement. To determine out of network coverage, your plan should be directly consulted (codes: 96116, 96132, 96133, 96136, 96137).
