Introduction

Are you prepared to live a life that you love and appreciate? The life you've been fantasizing about can be reality. A life in which you wake up with joy in your heart, feeling alert, and motivated. Imagine feeling fulfilled in your life and seeing yourself in the mirror dripping in confidence, enthusiasm, and having a passion for life. Isn't that what we all want? It's certainly achievable! Allow me to help guide you on your journey to the best version of yourself. Now is the time to take the next step and start living your dream life! Hi, I’m Dr. Malkema Martin, Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia. I believe that a person’s past does not have to define their future. Each person has the potential to live a positive and fulfilled life. I help clients get “unstuck” and focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses. My objective as a therapist is to effectively guide my clients to positive life decisions. Counseling can be very therapeutic when counselors are practicing effectively. I seek to build a trusting relationship with my clients and create a judgment-free environment in which my clients can freely discuss their needs, concerns, and overall wellbeing. I focus on what my clients can do, not what they can’t do. As a counselor, I seek to provide my clients with the best culturally competent care that fits their needs. Still wondering if this is the place for you? Well, you've come to the right place if you're tired of feeling anxious, worrying all the time, feeling like you’re being taken advantage of, and feeling unheard by the people you care about, and you're ready for a long-term change. Allow me to assist you in getting “unstuck” and unlearning negative ways of coping with life. I’d like to help you “rewire your brain” so you can live your dream life. I'd like to take the next step with you and assist you in being your most authentic self. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, I provide a unique perspective on minority women related issues and millennial related issues. I work with those who are dealing with extreme anxiety and are finding it difficult to balance work and life. I help them find relief and healthier ways to manage their symptoms. I work with individuals who have social anxiety who are having trouble developing or sustaining friendships and other interactions. I work with individuals who are struggling with traumatic distress-related nightmares, flashbacks, and continual concern or fear. I assist individuals who are looking to change their lives for the better and unlearn negative ways of coping with life stressors. So, if you are struggling to adjust to life changes such as moving or changing careers, I can teach you positive ways of coping and the skills needed to assist you with “rewiring your brain”. I will teach you how to use mindfulness techniques and cognitive behavioral techniques to help you manage your anxiety in the age social distancing. Let’s work on rewiring that anxious brain together! Our online video counseling sessions will be private, secure, and conveniently available to clients living in Georgia. I provide a warm, quiet, and welcoming environment in which you can safely explore the aspects of yourself that you want to cultivate and nourish while letting go of behaviors and beliefs that are causing you pain. I have been advocating and promoting mental health within urban communities for the last 6 years. I have committed my work to help my clients receive culturally competent mental health services. I have conducted extensive research on providing psychoeducational interventions to reduce negative stigmas of mental health and promote mental health services among African American mothers and their children. I received my Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision at the Chicago School for Professional Psychology, Master’s in Clinical Counseling from Eastern Illinois University and my Bachelors in Psychology from Spelman College. I have also served as an adjunct professor at South University in the clinical mental health counseling program. I am a License Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and I am a Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider (CTMH). I am also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, the American Counseling Association, and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. I have worked in clinical mental health settings for 6 years. I have experience with individual/group mental health counseling, crisis intervention, social services, case management, and early intervention. I also have experience in health, mental and administrative education where I provide effective advocacy and service coordination for clients to ensure their physical, social, and emotional needs are met. My areas of clinical specialization are individual counseling, early intervention, and family counseling.
