My name is Dr. Sandra Espinoza, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of California and I specialize in working with couples and women's issues. I have been a therapist for over 10 years. I have a doctorate degree in Couple and Family Therapy from the California School of Professional Psychology. I am also a faculty member at Alliant University where I am the program director of the Couple & Family Therapy program. I teach couples therapy courses as well as publish articles and book chapters on issues related to couples. Embracing a feminist perspective, I firmly believe in the importance of dismantling societal barriers and empowering women to embrace their true potential. My approach to therapy and counseling is deeply rooted in social justice, aiming to challenge and transform the structures that perpetuate inequality and marginalization. I strive to create a safe and inclusive environment where people can feel heard, respected, and valued. I am committed to fostering a collaborative relationship with my clients, recognizing their unique experiences and cultural backgrounds, as I firmly believe that every individual's story is worthy of acknowledgement and validation. Beyond my role as a university faculty member, I am actively engaged in various community initiatives, advocating for immigrant rights and supporting marginalized communities. Through public speaking, writing, and community workshops, I aim to raise awareness and promote dialogue around issues related to gender, immigration reform, social justice, and mental health. I work from a social justice informed couples therapy approach. I predominantly use Emotionally Focused Therapy while also paying attending to contextual factors such as gender, race, SES, sexual expression and immigration status. I also consider how family of origin dynamics shape our relationship patterns and perceptions of our partners. It would be an honor to walk alongside you in your journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and personal growth.
