Introduction

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to explore this website. My name is Emily Yen, a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) and practicing therapist. I provide services both in-person at my office in Des Moines and telehealth. I have actively worked as a therapist since 2019. I have experience providing care for young children (4-5 years old), children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. Providing care includes individual sessions, parent/caregiver only sessions, family sessions, and any collaboration with other providers as needed. My expertise and areas of interest include clients who struggle with self-acceptance, anxiety, trauma, depression, emotional intensity, LGBTQIA+ clients, racial identity exploration, and difficulties with maintaining relationships (platonic, familial, or romantic). Other areas of expertise I have include working with younger children and their families as well as individuals/families involved in other systems such as DHHS or juvenile court. I provide gender affirming care for all clients I serve. I utilize a blend of therapies within my practice including attachment-based, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Adlerian, and relational therapies. This eclectic approach is to help clients move toward healing and deeper understanding of themselves. Outside of work: I grew up in the Des Moines area and moved back after college. I enjoy trying new coffee shops/restaurants, going on walks my dog (Mia), and taking naps. Other hobbies of mine include reading, playing video games, watching tv, and playing board games with my partner.
