Hey! I'm Jalessa Townsend, a psychotherapist working with clients across Massachusetts via Telehealth. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to appear “in control” or constantly put others first at the cost of your own needs, you’re not alone. Many of my clients are seen as “strong” and “successful” by others but feel drained, unreciprocated, and frustrated. I specialize in helping people find peace, clarity, and a deeper sense of fulfillment—so you can finally start prioritizing yourself. My therapeutic approach is warm, authentic, and adaptable to each client’s unique needs and goals. I create a safe, non-judgmental space for exploring identity, emotions, and experiences. Using both psychodynamic and evidence-based practices, I support clients in building self-awareness, resilience, and self-acceptance. Together, we’ll work toward meaningful changes that help you feel more present, connected, and empowered. I primarily work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, stress, and self-doubt, as well as those struggling with perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and self-esteem. I’m especially passionate about supporting individuals with racial, gender, and cultural identity challenges, and those facing relationship or life transition issues. My approach is well-suited for clients who feel pressure to be “strong” or “in control” but may feel unseen or overwhelmed. I aim to provide a compassionate space for exploring these complex areas and fostering growth and resilience. My communication style is warm, genuine, and engaging, with a focus on creating a space that feels safe, inclusive, and supportive. I approach therapy relationally, meaning I value building a meaningful connection with you and believe this is key to fostering growth. Sessions are collaborative, where we work together to explore your experiences with curiosity and compassion. I aim to be present and attuned to your unique needs, encouraging you to bring your full, authentic self into our work. Clients often describe the environment as calm and affirming, with a balance between gentle encouragement and honest reflection. I strive to offer a place where you feel free to unpack whatever is on your mind without judgment and to explore the complexities of identity, purpose, and self-worth in a way that feels empowering. Working with me feels like having a partner in your journey, someone who’s there to guide, challenge, and celebrate the growth with you. I approach goal setting collaboratively, ensuring that goals align with your values, strengths, and personal vision for growth. We begin by exploring what feels meaningful to you, breaking down broad aspirations into achievable steps. I emphasize flexibility, as goals may shift over time as you gain insight and clarity. Throughout our work, I support you in tracking progress, celebrating successes, and adapting goals to remain responsive to your evolving needs and challenges. In the first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other, discuss what brings you to therapy, and clarify your goals and any specific challenges. I’ll ask questions to understand your background and what you hope to achieve, but you can share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. This is also your chance to ask about my approach or experience, and we can acknowledge any feelings of awkwardness or anxiety together. Therapy is a series of conversations, and my aim is to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel seen, heard, and ready to grow.
