Introduction

Societal norms, social oppression, and even loved ones can contribute to us feeling like we are not enough. This can have a significant impact on our thoughts and feelings about ourselves, and our negative automatic thoughts can be persistent and isolating. They can affect the way we approach others and how we navigate the world. I possess a sincere enthusiasm and tremendous optimism about one’s capacity for change. We all know ourselves best, so we’ll begin wherever you are, with curiosity and without judgment, and we’ll work together at your own pace. I am dedicated to creating a warm, affirming, and therapeutic space and inviting and honoring your vulnerability with empathy and compassion. With this foundation, we can explore the roots of your recent and past challenges and brainstorm new strategies to foster more solid ground in your life. Some of my areas of interest and experience include working with clients with anxiety, challenging life transitions, chronic health conditions, relationship and work stress, difficulty setting boundaries, and LGBTQQIA+ identities in addition to working with clients who are also therapists. My client-centered, trauma-informed, and social justice-focused approach to therapy has grown out of more than 20 years of advocacy and community-centered work with trauma survivors and individuals and families who have been marginalized as a result of oppression of gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, and immigration status. I incorporate a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness evidence-based practices that are aligned with the needs and preferences of my clients. Prior to my work as a therapist, I engaged in fair housing advocacy in collaboration with people with physical and psychiatric disabilities. I also provided interpretation and legal support for immigrants seeking asylum and avoiding deportation. Additionally, I spent years exploring identity and leadership development with adolescents as well as community organizing for youth-led school reform. While living in rural Costa Rica, I facilitated a support group for mothers in the community striving for increased independence. My advocacy work as well as my lived experiences have laid the foundation for my ability to authentically connect with my clients. I would be happy to schedule a free 30-minute consultation so we can get to know each other. Looking forward to connecting with you!
