What was your path to becoming a therapist? My introspective, empathic, and analytical personality has fit well with my career choice in clinical psychology. My diverse experience of growing up in India, immigrating to the United States as an international student, and developing a bicultural identity as an immigrant gives me a sensitivity to my clients' multicultural backgrounds and concerns. During my doctoral and postdoctoral training, I gained a solid foundation in providing psychodynamic psychotherapy in a multicultural context. I applied this foundation when working in various outpatient, inpatient, college, and forensic settings. I also have training in forensic, psychological, and bariatric assessments, although I do not use these currently in my practice. I have received personal training in meditation and using mindfulness meditation in psychotherapy was my doctoral dissertation topic. What should someone know about working with you? I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy in a multicultural context. I provide a compassionately insightful and culturally-sensitive space that allows you to attune to your inner wisdom, leading to contentment in personal and professional pursuits. Psychodynamic orientation is based on an insight-oriented approach of becoming aware of unconscious patterns rooted in our past that significantly impact current functioning in relationships, work, and recreation. I incorporate mindfulness meditation or relaxation techniques if the client prefers. How do your own core values shape your approach to therapy? My values of self-compassion, empowerment, genuineness, ethics, and multicultural sensitivity positively shape my psychotherapy work and my therapeutic relationship with my clients. What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape? My practice is exclusively telehealth-based, and research has shown telehealth to be very useful for treatment. I offer psychotherapy via a video HIPAA-compliant platform that protects your privacy and bars unauthorized access. Telehealth provides convenience for both the provider and client without compromising the quality of treatment. It is exciting to witness the ease of mental health access that telehealth provides. Now, you don't have to limit your therapist search to your local area but can instead extend it all over the state! What would you say to your potential clients who are looking for help? You are strong for others but suffering within; you feel vulnerable, conflicted, confused, and trapped. You are struggling in your relationships, career, or both. You may be going through significant life transitions with unexpected and overwhelming demands and choices to make. You have hurt from your childhood and the past burdens are weighing on your current life. Your unique cultural circumstances may further add to the complexity of your struggles. You want to be your authentic self and experience emotional freedom in order to function to the fullest potential in your interpersonal relations, parenting, career, and recreation. It takes a great deal of courage to acknowledge your emotional struggles and to face your fears. You may not be used to nurturing yourself, but this is your first step. Reach out to me to take the next step toward your emotional healing and freedom.
