My name is Jessica Sambrano I am a mental health counseling intern at Grand Canyon University. My "Why" started at age 16. Being a minority, living in poverty, a first-generation college student, a teen mother, a mother of a child with disabilities, and no mentors, I did not know where to start in life. I faced struggles with my own mental health and socioeconomical issues. Through my life transitions, I have learned that we all have life challenges because life can be hard! Also, our journeys are unique. My "Why" included becoming a helper in counseling. Helping in counseling can include developing a trusting relationship, finding hope, and encouraging safe environments. Through my teachings, I plan on continuing to help marginalized groups or those struggling with individual issues by taking a holistic and evidence-based approach. My sessions are motivational and client-centered as I believe they know themselves the best, my job is to help them blossom.
