I believe that most people have the answers within themselves to work through their own problems - my role is to guide you. I have experience helping people who are struggling with anxiety and depression, or who are numbing out through substance use. My clients are often working through life transitions and other challenging situations, such as relationship issues, grief, or chronic pain. Perhaps you have not been handling your emotions very well. You may even feel hopeless, or unsure how to articulate what you are feeling. Therapy is a collaborative journey to a more healthy state of mind. I'm flexible in terms of modality, and at the end of the day I just want to make therapy work for YOU, so that you can live by YOUR values, and pursue YOUR goals. I tend to approach therapy in a very gentle and collaborative way, however I also may sometimes call you out, because I think compassionate accountability can be helpful for a lot of people. I'm not here to preach annoying "toxic positivity" or to force the same old coping skills (that you don't want to do) every session, but I may ask from time to time if you'd be interested in going over a worksheet that seems relevant to your situation, or if you might be up for a guided mindfulness exercise that scientific studies suggest could be helpful.
