I help people resolve anxiety and sadness by identifying and resolving negative experiences and traumas from their pasts or worries about the future. The therapy I most commonly use is Polyvagal informed EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) integrated with Somatic interventions. Polyvagal Theory and Somatic interventions prepare and allow the client more comfort and resources during EMDR. EMDR works by enabling the client to fully process negative/disturbing life events. Disturbing life events and emotions related to them can create a block that prevents a person from processing and healing from those events. When those events are fully processed, the associated emotions dissipate, and the client can put the event in a perspective that promotes self-healing. EMDR facilitates that processing. Your emotional safety and an environment of curiosity will be our first priorities. We will do some Polyvagal and Somatic work to prepare your nervous system to more easily process during EMDR. We will explore negative experiences and/or traumas you may have had in your life that are being triggered by present day situations. We will then process negative experiences you choose at a rate that you choose, so that they are no longer being triggered in the present. Clients typically leave sessions feeling much better than when they arrived. I connect with my clients and walk through this work with them while maintaining professional boundaries. I see all of my clients as valuable and strive to help them see and believe in their value. I help clients move forward by helping them resolve the issues that are holding them back. I help clients learn the skills of managing their nervous system to better experience their lives. johnrbarnhart.com
