Joy comes to District Therapy Associates with over 10 years of experience empowering individuals to reach their fullest potential. Prior to joining DTA as a Psychotherapist, Joy provided individual and group therapy to diverse populations including children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, anger, ADHD, low self-esteem, trauma including sexual assault, drug and alcohol use, autism spectrum disorders, and involvement in the foster care system. Joy served as the Ethics Specialist for the American Counseling Association (ACA) for over 3 years. Joy is a self-professed counseling ethics nerd who loves sharing her knowledge and experience with counselors to assist them in practicing ethically. Joy has an M.S. in Clinical Counseling Health Psychology from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a B.A. in Psychology & Communication from La Salle University. Joy is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the District of Columbia. A native of southern California, Joy has lived and worked in Philadelphia and the Bay Area but is happy to now call the DC metro home. She is passionate about mental health, supporting youth and families, ethics, advocacy, and ultimately building a brighter future for mental health providers and those they serve.
