Hi there! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Colorado and Virginia, as well a Nationally Certified Counselor. I earned her Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Johns Hopkins University and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Virginia. Throughout my clinical experience, I have worked with individuals and families of all ages to address difficulties stemming from anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, eating disorders, OCD and more. I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults and have found that I have a unique ability to build rapport and relate to this population, allowing us to work collaboratively to reach their goals. I have a passion for working with young women specifically, helping them to navigate the myriad of unique challenges they face, including, but not limited to body-image concerns, sexism, sexual difficulties and anxieties. Additionally, I have specialized knowledge in the field of eating disorders, having collaborated with some of the top professionals in the field in the DC Metro area. I am knowledgeable about working in tandem with nutritionists, physicians, and families to restore healthy weight, implement structured meal plans, and help clients to develop coping skills that instill hope and promote their health. Finally, I am interested in working with individuals who were raised in dysfunctional home environments. I am well versed in attachment theory and use this empirically validated approach to help clients understand how their early childhood experiences have influenced their patterns of behavior and ability to relate to others. I am well versed in the tenants of AL ANON, as well as contemporary literature on divorce and childhood trauma and am certified in providing trauma-informed care. I have experience using a variety of treatment modalities, including: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure response prevention therapy (ERP), person-centered, and mindfulness based approaches. Additionally, she is certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and trained in Play Therapy. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of all effective therapy and, therefore, works alongside all of her clients from a holistic, empathetic, and non-judgmental stance. Katie is dedicated to working collaboratively with clients to help them reach their goals and bring about meaningful change. In her free time, Katie enjoys hiking, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
