I have been a practicing mental health therapist since 2019 and working in the mental health field since 2015 as a case manager and behavioral counselor for a crisis and detox unit, crisis mobile response team, and a forensic mental health facility. Prior to that, I was in the Education field working in multiple schools as a substitute teacher, teacher's assistant, and director of a gifted program. I received my Bachelors of Science in Psychology and my Minor of Arts in Early Childhood Development and Education from the University of Central Florida in 2015. In 2019, I graduated from Florida International University with a Masters of Science in Counseling Education, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Track. I have had experience providing therapy in all of the following areas: trauma, grief work, anxiety, depression, dual diagnosis, substance/alcohol use, mood disorders, mindfulness, self-esteem, ADHD, adolescents, LGBTQIA+, crisis, couples counseling, and additional general areas. I am what my clients would consider a “laid-back professional.” The relationship between therapist and client should always be professional and clinical, however, I believe the therapeutic environment and client should feel as comfortable and at ease as possible. Because of this, sessions with me would feel less like an assessment and more like a conversation with intention and reflection. I believe humor should be an active factor of therapy (at the right time of course) so sarcasm and jokes are happily welcomed from all clients! I do not work well with the one-size-fits all approach to therapy. I believe that it is my job as a clinician to get to know you as my client and apply the methods that would best serve your needs. Because I have worked in settings where all individuals at all levels are seen, I have experience with more methods and techniques than average. I do tend to take techniques from multiple approaches in order to create a more custom therapeutic approach. The key component of a positive and safe therapeutic alliance and relationship is trust and authenticity. I understand the discomforts that come with meeting a stranger and having to feel vulnerable and open. Because of this, I make it my main goal to create a safe and comfortable environment first and foremost. If you are thinking about reaching out for help or just wanting to look into what therapy might look and feel like to you, contact me and I’ll help walk you through the process. And if I am not the therapist for you, I will help you find one! This is a step meant for you to prioritize your health and mental space, which is harder than it sounds so congrats on taking these first steps!
