Introduction

“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” — Jiddu Krishnamurti Lakeway EMDR is owned and operated by Karen Goldapp (she/her), LCSW. (I'm a social worker, not a doctor, so you can call me Karen.) Karen obtained her master's degree in Social Work from Texas State University, and bachelor's degree from University of Texas at Austin. She works with individuals 18 and up. Many of her clients have histories of trauma, including survivors of abuse, neglect, generational trauma, helping professions, and individuals with family of origin trauma. Karen is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). EMDR is a scientifically validated and efficient treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and it has proven invaluable in the treatment of many other conditions. Karen's primary modality is EMDR, and it is helpful for persons who have survived abuse, neglect, and other kinds of trauma by somatically processing “stuck” memories and negative self-beliefs. One of the benefits of EMDR, is that it does not require the client to “relive” the event, nor talk about it in a very detailed manner. Karen has seen numerous clients empowered from EMDR to reduce and eliminate many symptoms like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and other triggers. Additionally, she practices Ego State Therapy which helps us understand where triggers come from, why we have conflicting desires/actions, and how to heal from trauma while supporting ourselves and without getting overwhelmed. Ego State Therapy provides us a framework to re-parent ourselves—with love, humor, respect, and gentleness. Therapy can be enhanced for clients with religious and spiritual backgrounds, and Karen includes spiritual strengths and imagery if a client chooses to. Areas of focus include complex trauma, Christian counseling, depression, anxiety, PTSD, codependency, cultural, societal and systemic factors, and Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA) clients. Clients are not discriminated based on race, religion, color, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. _________________________________________________________________ If you are interested in weekly, in-person therapy please message me your insurance info and why you are looking for therapy. I see clients in-person during daytime hours Mondays-Wednesdays. I am currently accepting new clients. ___________________________________________________________________
