Introduction

Great to meet you! My name is Karen Rivera-Seda and I am a Jamaican born 1st Generation American. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who is trained in marriage, couple, and family therapy (MCFT). Additionally, I am a certified clinical anxiety treatment professional (CCATP) and a certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP). Through forming a collaborative partnership, I provide support to high school seniors, college students, and adults in the areas of anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, immigration evaluations, immigrant parent(s) concerns, and being the adult/young adult child of immigrants. I also provide support to couples in the areas of communication, interracial relationship, marital, premarital, pre-engagement and pre-cohabitation concerns. I am fluent in English and Jamaican Patois (Patwah). As such, therapy sessions and immigration evaluations session can be conducted in either of the aforementioned language/dialect. Immigration evaluation sessions can also be conducted in other languages with the assistance of an interpreter. My therapeutic style possesses systemic undertones and mainly utilizes techniques from Structural Therapy, Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy. Elements from other approaches are incorporated as needed. My work with clients always involves a review of ecosystemic influences (e.g. family, culture, school/work, friends, interests) as everyone possesses unique experiences that can affect their starting points and needs presentation. The unknown aspects that can often accompany starting therapy for the first time or with a new therapist can be scary for some clients. My goal is to eliminate or at the very least minimize the aforementioned by providing a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients can feel comfortable going at their own pace. My hope is for each client to leave their first session feeling supported, hopeful, and ready to embark on their journey towards meeting the goals they have set for therapy. I am committed to supporting you every step of the way in your therapeutic journey. If you are ready to take the first step, I invite you to schedule your free consultation with me to see if we might be a good therapeutic match.
