I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina. I hold a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL, which was completed in December 2003. I provide individual counseling, marital counseling and group counseling. The theoretical base for my work with you as a client will come from the concepts and ideas set forth by a variety of authors and teachers in the Christian counseling field, most notable are Drs. Larry Crabb and Dan Allender. This spiritual framework is integrated with perspectives of family systems, existential, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral understandings of how people work. My approach focuses on looking at patterns of relating to others as a way of understanding how you think, believe and behave towards life. My areas of expertise focus on those struggling with anxiety, grief, trauma, addictive and destructive habits, unresolved conflict, lack of intimacy, communication obstacles, codependence, and depression. I am not equipped to work individually with severe medical or psychological issues and therefore will make appropriate medical or psychiatric referrals as I deem necessary. I employ a host of techniques based on my clients’ unique needs, and I engage multiple modalities because there is no “one fix fits all.” Those methods include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Gottman Couples Therapy, CBT, Solution Focused Therapy and more, and I am constantly adding new tools to my belt. My clients are adult individuals, couples, and families. Sometimes my work also includes children and adolescents ages 8 and up. In all cases, my unwavering commitment is for the person who takes the risk of stepping into my office to feel safe, respected, loved, heard, appreciated, encouraged, and hopeful. I look forward to speaking to you during our initial phone consultation. Karyn
