Hello to all! My name is Kassandra Thompson, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Board-Certified Counselor in the state of Texas. I received my bachelor's in psychology and master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. I have a passion for mental health, and helping others overcome life challenges. I believe this comes from not only my own personal experiences, but through observing such challenges, hard work, and the strength and will to overcome from others. The ongoing journey of growth is deeply beautiful. I was born and raised in Wyoming, but I have lived around San Antonio since 2015. While there was not an entire environmental shock, going from below zero temperatures to 100-degree temperatures for 9 months out of the year in Texas was quite the adjustment! I have been pleased with the access to pretty much anything and everything wanted and/or needed within a city, however; San Antonio is about 35 times larger than where I grew up. I have two children, a son and daughter, that drive me crazy but bring tremendous meaning, joy, and love into my life, as our children often do. Being a parent, I can relate to you, Mom and Dad. I provide counseling to individuals, couples, and teens in many areas, such as: depression, anxiety, anger, PTSD, trauma, marriage, family, relationship, bullying, self-esteem, teen identity, and a variety of other life challenges and disorders. I practice from a multi-theoretical approach to counseling with clients, although Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is frequently used. I believe the therapeutic approach should be tailored to your needs, and not based on the “most common”, that may not be as good of a fit for you. The path of life is forever changing, so we work with it, not against it. I further have a passion for marriage, family, and relationship counseling, stemming from my own divorce and desire for a positive co-parenting relationship. If you need guidance through a relationship, marriage, divorce, or co-parenting, I can assist you in gaining insight and awareness to your own complex situation. Additionally, I will assist in building your skills in mindfulness, communication, and boundaries to be utilized as tools that can help you navigate through challenging times. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is essential to build trust and connection, as well as feel comfortable to be open and yourself. I highly value being open and honest with you as well, in hopes to build this relationship, unless I feel it would be harmful to you or your process in any way. If you are reading this, you have already taken the first courageous step in healing, growth, and making a change in your life. At times, life feels out of control, unmanageable, and overwhelming. At times, we are seeking to improve and challenge ourselves. At times, we experience tremendous loss that impacts more areas of our life than we may realize. In turn, we find ourselves in of need support that is non-judgmental or biased. Your reason for seeking counseling never has to be justified to anyone other than yourself.
