Introduction

COUNSELING FOR COUPLES, WELLNESS FOR INDIVIDUALS, SEX THERAPY FOR ALL TRAINED IN EMDR AND CLINICAL HYPNOSIS Focusing primarily on relationships, sexuality, and trauma, Kate Double seeks to meet ALL clients where they are. Kate is a fully licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in North Carolina and Virginia; and a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW-CP) in South Carolina. She has special interest in issues related to healing from trauma; life transitions; midlife development; relationship satisfaction; sexuality; moving forward after relationship loss; and exploring gender identity. Starting with the belief that relationships of all types are central to our well-being, Kate partners with her patients to create a warm and safe environment in which to explore patterns that effect individual and relationship well-being. She believes that the role of therapy is not only to heal past hurts, but also to improve current and future functioning. Kate sees psychotherapy as a joint and dynamic process between therapist and patients. Treatment is always tailored especially for each patient, be that an individual or a couple. Kate takes a holistic approach to sex therapy, with a focus on improving sexual satisfaction, coping sexual pain or dysfunction, and reducing the impact of desire discrepancy. Clients with diverse gender expressions/identities and sexual orientations are welcomed and embraced. Kate’s work is informed by attachment and polyvagal theories. She provides an integrative approach including the Gottman Method, emotionally focused therapy, mindfulness, Ericksonian methods, solution- focused, and narrative counseling as part of the art of psychotherapy. Kate is trained in EMDR and clinical hypnosis and uses these either as stand-alone treatments or adjunct therapies when desired and clinically appropriate for patients. Additionally, Kate provides weekly clinical supervision to licensed clinical social work associates (LCSWA) seeking to specialize in relationships, sexuality, and trauma. Kate has a BA from Bard College in New York and an MSW from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is currently accepting telehealth patients only.
