Starting therapy is a big decision and an important one, but it is not always easy. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and invite you to reach out to learn more. I have been a therapist for a long time. I earned my Master of Arts in Art Therapy in 2000 and my Master of Social Work in 2005, both from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I am a PhD candidate at McGill University and am an Associate Professor of Social Work. My research has focused on complex trauma, the healing nature of the arts, and, most recently, on understanding the transformative power of awe. I have also been certified in psychedelic-assisted therapy (Ketamine and Psilocybin). Over my career I am grateful to have worked in a variety of clinical settings and with a range of individuals, families, and groups. For example, I worked with children, youth and families, in in-patient psychiatry and with those with addictions. I have also had the privilege to work with survivors of abuse, with couples struggling in their relationships, and with adults with depression/anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and those with burnout. Across all my experience, trauma has been the common denominator. I believe understanding our past can shed light on the struggles of our present. I also believe we can outgrow old patterns of functioning that no longer serve us and that it is possible to learn how to relate to our selves in new ways. When we do, it can free us from the pain of the past, enrich our present, and move us toward a more fulfilling future. I view life from a multi-systemic perspective - one that highlights how we are embedded within complex structures of family, community, and sociocultural dynamics - which can oppress, suppress, harm, or otherwise constrain us from living in alignment with the true nature of our authentic spirit. My approach to therapy is deeply relational and I consider it a gift to be able to walk alongside others in their healing journey. I welcome working with all gender identities, ethnicities, and across all age ranges. I have a wealth of experience working with children, youth, and families and enjoy working with adults to promote mental health and sustainable wellbeing. I have a special affinity for working with issues such as trauma, depression/anxiety, shame and vulnerability, ADHD, self-worth, loss and grief, women's issues, infertility, parenting, family of origin dynamics, attachment, and relationship struggles. I’m originally from Buffalo, NY, but have lived in Chicago, overseas, and most recently in Montreal, where I have lived for the past 15 years. I just relocated to Easthampton and am enjoying settling into this beautiful area with my twin 6-year-old daughters and cannot wait to explore more! I am thrilled to be joining EmbodyMind Wellness and would welcome the chance to connect with you. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or to set up a call.
