My approach to therapy is founded on the belief that clients are capable of making the changes needed to cultivate their life worth living. When clients start therapy this often feels impossible. I see your suffering; I will walk with you and guide you out of the suffering. Past clients would describe me as compassionate, sensitive and yet straightforward with some dry humor. In our work together, we will explore patterns of behavior, thoughts, and/or environmental patterns that contribute to your suffering. Sometimes, we will sit with the acceptance of those things & other times we will work on skills to change those things. I work with teens (15+), young adults, and adults around issues of suicidality, self-harm, emotion regulation (big emotions = big behaviors!), trauma, anxiety, and depression. As a veteran myself & someone who works in the first responder community, I have a special place in my heart for serving military affiliated personnel and first responders. I have worked in community mental health, sexual assault advocacy, private practice, and crisis response for over 10 years. I have over 80 hours of specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and additional advanced training in Behavioral Activation and Cognitive Processing Therapy. I frequently incorporate mindfulness into mental health therapy sessions. Typically, in my work, I use evidence based practices with clients. However, a core belief of mine is that there are two experts in the room: the client and the therapist. You, the client, are an expert in yourself, and the therapist is the expert of the therapy. We will work together to provide you the best care for you. Outside of work, I can be found on a long distance run, hiking in the PNW, globetrotting, or curled up with a historical fiction (or thriller!) novel.
