Relationship and family wounds leave us feeling confused, hurt, and unseen. My clients are adults and teens of all genders who have not felt seen or accepted in a vital relationship. Sometimes this has occurred in a context they understand to be traumatic: an abusive partner or violent parent. Other times, things don't feel so clear. Maybe childhood felt confusing, lonely, or just hard. Some clients have started to wonder if the "dream relationship" they're in is a little bit toxic. And some simply hold an identity that others feel entitled to invalidate, deny, or oppress. But almost always, the relationship that hurt is also one that promised love and security. I help people who have not gotten their needs met in important relationships to find healing and refuge in themselves - and in turn - to reimagine relationships built upon acceptance, trust, and mutuality. Sessions with me are tailored to your needs, and we collaborate together on which topics we explore, as well as when and how deeply we explore them. Clients who work with me often name reducing shame and increasing self-compassion as key components of our therapy’s success. In addition to relationship wounds, clients may seek me out for help with feelings of anxiety, grief, burn out, depression, overwhelm, or shame. For more than 10 years, I have also specialized in supporting trans, non-binary, lesbian, gay, bisexual and queer individuals of all ages, as well as their families. I previously had the honor of co-creating and coordinating the youth hormone protocol at Howard Brown Health, the largest LGBTQ-centered health clinic in the Midwest. There, I trained nationally and internationally with leaders in the field, many of whom still contribute to the mental health and medical standards of care for transgender and gender diverse people across the globe. I take a holistic approach to accompanying trans and non-binary adults and adolescents in gender exploration, navigating family or community ambivalence, increasing support, and making decisions about medical care and disclosure. I am passionate about supporting all people to connect with and nurture their most authentic self. I believe in everyone's right to feel safe, nurtured, and seen in relationships - with others, with a therapist, and with oneself. Reach out to see if I am the right fit for you. If after our first full session, you decide that I am not the right fit, you will not be charged, and I will share the names of other therapists in my network who may be of help.
