Art therapy promotes ACTIVE involvement in the the therapy process. We are able to experience the JOY of playing with materials, the EMPOWERMENT of recognizing choices, and the PRIDE in creative production. Art-making is a MINDFUL process that requires a focus on the PRESENT moment and allows us the opportunity to practice essential life skills such as TAKING RISKS, EXPERIMENTING, MAKING DECISIONS, and LETTING GO. Creative expression offers a language for the unspoken or unknown and inspires insights into our emotional and energetic experience. When we are guided by CURIOSITY, rather than judgment and INTUITION over expectations, we are able to visualize, externalize and COMMUNICATE more than with words alone. In art therapy, we CONNECT more deeply, RELEASE tension in the cells of our bodies, and find WISDOM and HEALING within ourselves.
