Welcome to Peace Through Change Counseling, LLC. My name is Laurie R. LaFollette, MS, LPC, LCPC, NCC, and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, in both West Virginia and Maryland. Since 2018, I have worked as an addiction’s counselor, and then became a mental health therapist. Currently, I specialize in dual diagnosis therapy for both mental health therapy and addiction counseling. For over the past 20 plus years my working career has been focused to some degree in the medical, legal, and law enforcement fields. It was during my time spent in the legal and law enforcement fields, that I decided to return to college and work on a graduate Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling to become a mental health counselor working with clients who struggle with mental health problems, addiction, trauma, and everything in between. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with many populations and cultures, and through those opportunities, it has allowed me to become a stronger counselor when working with clients to meet them where they are in their journey in life. My approach to counseling is focused on Carl Rogers’ person-centered theory. With using a person-centered approach to working with clients, it focuses on congruency, accurate empathic understanding, and overall unconditional positive regard towards clients. I feel it is important for clients to genuinely feel heard, and to feel connected through a strong sense of empathy, and unconditional positive regard. By working from a person-centered theory, I feel I can meet a client where they are in treatment, and that is important in building therapeutic rapport and creating change. Change is difficult, and can be challenging, but it is worth it. I feel honored to be working with each of my clients, because it can be hard to reach out for help when the struggle gets real in life. Together, we will work to find Peace Through Change, and to create a life worth living, moving forward. Laurie
