Navigating the mental health system is not an easy task. I believe therapy should be a space to feel safe and heard regardless of your life experiences, and that your culture and identity are important to celebrate and integrate into therapy. My approach to therapy is person centered, trauma focused, and psychodynamic, with an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship as a key component for client change. Part of this therapeutic relationship is knowing when to step in and challenge clients, especially if their actions are harmful or destructive to themselves, so I step in and guide clients directly when needed. I consider myself an integrative therapist and like to focus on the best way to address an issue to fit the client’s needs over strict adherence to a modality over the course of treatment. The therapy modalities I draw from in my practice are DBT, ACT, CBT, Relational-Cultural Therapy, Mindfulness interventions, trauma and attachment interventions, and other process-oriented therapy interventions. My experience working as a therapist and teacher has given me a unique toolbox and ability to understand both my role as a therapist and how I can do better to actively fight systemic mistreatment of BIPOC and the LGBTQIA+ community.
