My passion for counseling started with my own journey in counseling over 10 years ago. Like many who reach out to a counselor, I was in crisis, and I was questioning, “how did I get here?” Luckily, I found a counselor who created a safe, compassionate, and trusting space for me to begin my journey. I am committed to holding the same safe space for you to navigate any crisis and journey into self-exploration. For me, counseling is about growing the “healthy” parts of yourself and integrating the parts of yourself you may rather not claim. Often, people have learned coping mechanisms which helped them survive up until now. Unknowingly, those same coping mechanisms are keeping them stuck in repeatedly recreating an “unhealthy” cycle in their lives. As the “healthy” parts of you grow and strengthen, the “unhealthy” parts become a significantly less part of your “whole”. I believe awareness of how you self-sabotage in your life is half the battle of growth and creating the joyful life you desire and deserve. The other half is the development of the “observer” within you capable of containing knee jerk emotional responses. As the “observer” within you strengthens and learns to contain, you have more choice in your life. You no longer remain a victim of your emotional responses. You become free to choose something different! As an integrative therapist, I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy. Depending on your needs and desires, we may incorporate mindfulness, yoga, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy or something else. Together, we will find what works best for you to integrate and accept all parts of yourself with love, grace, self-compassion, and own the power in your life. I graduated with a Masters in Clinical Counseling, and I am working towards full-licensure in the state of TN. My undergraduate is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I loved my time working as a Labor and Delivery nurse in New Orleans before moving to Nashville over 20 years ago in a sales management position in corporate America. I have a passion for working with people breaking free and recovering from toxic relationships, navigating life transitions (divorce/relationship adjustment, coparenting, single parenting), infertility, alcohol/opioid/barbiturate addiction, spouses of sex addicts, love addiction, trauma survivors, depression, anxiety, grief and spiritual abuse recovery. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming. I take a secular approach, but work with all belief systems within the context of your beliefs. Also, I believe mental healthcare should be accessible to people of all income levels, and I reserve a percentage of my practice for reduced sliding scale and pro-bono fees based on availability, income level, and clinical need. When I am not working, you will find me spending time with my 13 year old and 11 year old sons, watching SEC football, hiking, doing yoga, enjoying dinner with friends, or walking our dog, Bruce Wayne. If I can help you, please reach out and let’s talk. I would be glad to spend time with you over the phone to see if I would be a good fit as a counselor for you.
