Introduction

Welcome! My name is Lourdes Janet Camacho, but you can just call me Janet! I have been a practicing therapist since 2015. My areas of expertise includes anxiety, depression and trauma affecting women, teenage girls, and non-binary women. I am a bilingual, first generation Latinx woman. I am a mother, a wife, dog mom, self-proclaimed designer of spaces, and plant lover. I did not grow up with conversations about mental health. My passion for mental health began with an introductory psychology class in college. Looking back now, my educational path was my own attempt at increasing my self-awareness and it gave me language for the parts of me and others that I did not understand. MY CLIENTS I provide specialized support and care to women, a population that I feel particularly called to serve. On top of all the systemic challenges women face, women are at higher risk for adverse childhood events (ACES) which are potential traumatizing events. My work involves empowering women to reclaim their sense of agency and control over their lives through processing their traumatic experiences, and manage distressing symptoms through the understanding of their autonomic nervous system. My niche was influenced by women I love who have been affected by wounds in attachment, grief, domestic violence, sexual abuse, relational issues, and other significant trauma. I practice in their honor, and I am committed to creating a safe place for teen girls and women to heal. If you are looking to heal from situations that occurred in the past that impacts your current functioning, you are in the right place. MODALITIES EMDR: I am an EMDR certified Therapist. EMDR is a memory-based therapy, which focuses on memory storage and conceptualizes that the past impacts the present. EMDR resolves unprocessed traumatic memories. If you notice disturbance within your body, emotions, or thoughts upon recalling an event or memory, EMDR can support reducing the disturbance by retrieving the memory and allowing the opportunity to store it in a more adaptive way that will no longer activate the nervous system as it once did. EMDR does not focus on changing the emotions, thoughts or behaviors like in other models, it allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR is not diagnosis specific and it's effective across age, gender, and culture. In my practice, EMDR is often times complimented with Internal Family Systems, Attachment Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I use these modalities tailored to your individual presenting concerns. I offer my services in-person and virtually when appropriate. INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS: Internal Family Systems is an evidence-based model which helps us understand internal parts of ourselves. The goal is to unburden both trauma holding parts of us and protective parts of us so we can address life from a less defensive responses and increase a self-led system. To be self-led means experiencing life from a place of compassion, creativity, curiosity, courage, clarity, confidence, connectedness, confidence, calm, being present, having perspective, playfulness, patience, and persistence. ATTACHMENT THERAPY: Attachment Therapy explores early attachment experiences with our primary caregivers and how it shapes the adults that we become. At times, when we struggle to form meaningful bonds as adults, it can be linked to negative early attachment experiences. The goal is to strengthen the capacity for a secure attachment through modeling in the therapeutic relationship and through revisiting and healing the attachment wounds. NARRATIVE THERAPY: Narrative Therapy helps people struggling with the internalization of what happened to them. This modality views problems as separate from people. How you tell stories about your life and relationships is explored. The goal is to find your voice and re-author new and preferred stories about your life and relationships. DURATION of TREATMENT Therapy looks different for each person and I cannot say how long you will work with me. Either you have reached your treatment plan goals and objectives, or one day, you’ll wake up and realize that you got what you came for from therapy. You’ll have a feeling of readiness to be done and that’s the day I’m working for. MY HOME OFFICE I practice out of my home office located near the Bison Ridge Recreation Center in Commerce City, CO. The home office is a quiet, private and thoughtfully put together space that provides an inviting, safe, and confidential environment. CONSULTATION I am currently working towards becoming an EMDR consultant. I offer consultation services to therapists seeking this type of support. Feel free to reach out to see if we would be a good fit for this service. ~BUTTERFLY HUGS~ RESOURCES: The hardest part about getting help for a mental health, substance use or emotional concern is knowing where to start.
