Years ago, I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician because I loved kids. Life throws us for a loop sometimes though and I actually ended up in education. I spent nineteen years as a teacher and then figured out I wanted to help people with the problems standing in the way of their success, as many of my kids couldn't learn because of their life circumstances (ACES). I retired from education in May and am now working full time as an LPC. I love diversity. I am Canadian, but my parents immigrated there from Holland in 1968. We were always taught that culture is a mosaic, not a melting pot. I speak English, Spanish, Dutch, and limited French. I love CBT, solution focused therapy, and client centered therapy. I work as the mental health professional for equine therapy at two different ranches (Oasis Acres and Reboot Hope) and have now found EMDR. I love working with adolescents, but I also love helping with trauma whatever your age may be. Retirement from education now gives me time to further explore the things that will make me even more effective as a counselor.
