We are all human. Sometimes we are thriving and sometimes we are just surviving. People of all ages struggle at different times with depression, anxiety, trauma, or just handling life's many transitions. It's okay to seek help and care. In fact, it shows strength and an eagerness to want to improve your life and make positive changes. So often people think that "hitting the gym" or starting to "eat clean" will be the change they need. Physical exercise and healthy eating are positive additions to one's lifestyle, but it is important to understand the benefits of mental and emotional health as well. Too often we neglect that part of ourselves until things seem to hit rock bottom. Take care of your mental and emotional health just like you would your physical health. Do you need a check in? There is no "one size fits all" approach to therapy. At Grey Matters Counseling I believe in meeting you, the client, where you are at and finding out what works well for you. I find myself bringing in a lot of elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and many mindfulness techniques to help focus on the present moment. Seeking therapy is a personal choice and one that shows strength, bravery, and a strong desire for personal growth. After years of teaching high school, I decided I could help the teenagers and families I interacted with better as a licensed counselor. Every day people engage in conversation with others, seeking and providing support, feedback, encouragement, advice, friendship, and laughter. The therapeutic relationship is one where a confidential, trusting, and supportive conversation can take place. In therapy, you're free to be yourself, share your greatest fears and most exciting goals, as well as seek the support you need in times of difficulty, transition, and growth. My Approach: Therapy is a collaborative process. You have goals and I want to help you reach them. The therapy session is important, but implementing in daily life what is learned, discussed, and set in motion during the session is essential to seeing long term results/change from therapy. Together let’s figure out what you’re wanting and needing in life so I can help you get there! My Background: After earning a Bachelor of Science in English Education from the University of WI-Whitewater, I taught high school English for several years. During my time of teaching and coaching I developed a strong passion for helping teenagers, parents and families in the counseling setting. I went on to earn my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mount Mary University. After finishing my clinical hours I became a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Wisconsin. My clinical experiences include working in residential treatment centers, hospitals and outpatient therapy offices working with adolescents, teenagers, emerging adults, and adults. I have specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and truly believe in the amazing power we have in challenging negative thoughts and negative core beliefs we may hold. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and am deeply interested in working with those dealing with past and current traumas. My Community: I live in Milwaukee and love the city and the people! I enjoy the lakefront, walks, reading, traveling, summer festivals, trying new restaurants and foods, and good conversation with friends. I work daily on staying in the present moment, practicing gratitude, and being bold. I would love the opportunity to work with you!
