Accepting clients impacted by disaster

Introduction

Hello, I am Dr. Brown. I go by Masha. I am a California psychologist specializing in trauma, anxiety, burnout, and acute stress. At this time I have three pro-bono short term therapy slots for victims or first responders who are impacted by the fires in Southern California. I also accept 1 Lyra Healthcare client. I will give priority to those impacted by the wildfires. You may be in a state of shock and overwhelm right now. You may feel that therapy is the last thing you need. There are far more pressing concerns if you just survived a fire, and of course there are. Well, I am here to remind you that taking care of yourself does not have to take a long time and can positively impact your other areas of life. As a former Southern California resident myself, my heart goes out to everyone impacted by the fires. Here is a little bit about me-- I am a certified EMDR Therapist. To learn more about EMDR here is where you can find more information https://www.emdria.org/. In addition, I use several brief solution focused approaches to resolve traumatic events. These include Flash Technique (a more gentle version of EMDR, https://flashtechnique.com/wp/), and Emotional Freedom Technique (https://eftinternational.org/) I would be happy to use the approaches I know to help you quickly resolve the shock, numbness and intense anxiety that often accompanies trauma. I have been working in the field of trauma therapy for close to 20 years. My work in mental health began before my graduate education and I gained a considerable amount of experience as a result. I worked with veterans, children living in group homes, and victims of violent crime in a major city. I earned my Master’s and Doctorate Degrees from the Wright Institute and my Bachelor’s Degree from UC Berkeley. I currently work in my private practice in San Francisco Bay Area. My approach to psychotherapy is client centered, empathetic, collaborative and active. I capitalize on clients’ strengths and do not believe that anyone is broken or “sick”. Just as the negative patterns have been learned and reinforced, they can be healed with the right tools. The power in the therapy room always lies with you. I am a facilitator and a guide in the process who helps to nurture your inner resources and wisdom. I see adults and young adults in my practice. Should you want more information about my experience and training, please view my resume please see here https://therapythatempowers.net/resume/.
