A little About Me: Hi!, My name is Mathew. I don’t think I’d survive without really bad reality television. My kids are only a little addicted to screens and I’m pretty proud of that. I don’t always have my shit together, despite my attempts to appear as I do, but I usually know how to get back on track. I’m an overachiever and relearned how to embrace the idea "Its okay to not have a perfectly clean house all the time". I work with folks who have overcompensated for adverse childhood experiences by creating beautiful lives and careers that at times can feel like a distraction from the realities they dont want to face. My Ideal Client: My ideal client works hard and struggles to find a balance between work life and personal life, often struggling within interpersonal relationships. They’re trying to re- learn self-empathy and care a bit less about what others think about them. Having had my own experiences with this (which is going to be different from yours,) I know the value of stepping fully into your true identities. If you suspect there’s a shift that needs to happen, but are afraid you'll never be able to achieve a healthy balance, you're my people! Why I Became a Therapist: As a Licensed Clinical Social worker graduating from Stony Brook University. My guiding ethical principles are how my own struggles have made me a better therapist. Throughout my life, I have had severe anxiety and panic attacks and have struggled with feeling secure in my own identity throughout childhood/adolescent years and far into adulthood as a queer person. Through my own therapy journey, I have developed lived experiences just as valuable as my clinical work. Looking forward to connecting, Mathew Wunsch, LCSW-SIFI mat@fireislandpinespsychotherapy.com
