He is fluent in both English and Arabic. Michael greatly understands the struggles of being a multicultural individual and is empathetic to the challenges of people who are dealing with similar transitions. He has volunteered and worked in fourteen countries in the past decade. Michael spent years in African countries working as an HIV counselor, which is what drove him to pursue counseling and help carry others’ burdens. In his work in the nonprofit world, Michael has prepared counseling materials for widows and children who have lost their fathers; these materials focused on emotional resilience, addiction, grieving, and more. Michael has a passion for working with young adults, adults, and couples and supporting them through various issues including parent-child relationships, couple’s issues, anxiety, depression, life transitions, spiritual issues, multicultural issues, generational issues, and relational trauma. Since every person is a unique and multifaceted individual, Michael strives to take a holistic and integrative approach to tailor therapy to the needs of each client. He believes in therapy as a collaboration between the client and himself. He uses various evidence-based techniques. Michael completed a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University and is working as a Licensed Resident in Counseling, license #0704016022, which expires on 06/29/2024. Michael is working under the supervision of Marianne G. Shirilla, MAMFC, LMFT, LPC-S. Michael’s goal is to become a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Michael is certified in SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) and is currently training to become a Certified Trauma Professional. Michael offers a free 15-minute initial phone consultation for potential clients. In addition, Michael offers evening appointments from 6:30pm-9:30pm, Monday through Thursday. Although guaranteed payment from insurance is not possible, Michael accepts most Viriginia Anthem BCBS and Carefirst DC Capital region plans including FEPBlue and out of state BCBS. All in network insurance is billed through the supervisor. Should you desire out of network reimbursement, Michael will provide you a statement to submit to your insurance company.
