Introduction
Let’s be honest, being a comedian isn’t easy. While your friends are getting married, having children and buying mansions back home, you’re schlepping yourself to open mic nights and chasing your dream, well at least before the pandemic. You don’t need to go through this journey alone. Comedy doesn’t always pay well, although I have some ideas. You’re emotionally vulnerable on stage and some worry about going viral for the wrong reasons. It’s awesome when you kill (comedy lingo for bringing the house down) but devastating when you bomb. I’ll teach you to embrace this. Unfortunately, it’s hard to share these experiences with others. Only comics get it but they’re too busy doing shtick rather than listening to you. And if you’re a female comic, it can be worse because you’re mostly surrounded by male comics and battling societal stereotypes. But remember, you are not alone. You’ve chosen a creative path for good reason despite its challenges. There is strength in reaching out!!! It can feel like a breath of fresh air to ask for help from a therapist.
